MdS Kit: What did and didn’t work

You would think that running would be a kit-free zone but somehow I managed to spend a fortune, kitting up for the Marathon Des Sables. In fact, because you have to carry everything for the week, it is incredibly important to get the necessity versus weight ratio right. Food was one of the really crucial factors and bizarrely I found that less was more.

I love learning languages but there is always that difficult phase when you are fluent in three phrases but have no real idea what is going on. I am often in that phase for a very long time!

Alex Stein credits her Grandmother with starting her off on yoga. She has been practising since she was a child and now she is sharing that experience. Her speciality is yoga for healing. I need some flexibility and she promised no pain.....

Scoping out the route for the UTAT 42km marathon distance I am running on 3rd October. My flatmate, Olivia and I, hiked it over two days, and that felt tiring, maybe it was the 2,600 metres of ascent. We met Mohammed on the way and he put things in perspective.

No food or drink for 15 hours and then an hour's run. My Moroccan running friends put me to shame during Ramadan.
